Duke Buying 20-Megawatt Halifax Solar Project in North Carolina

(Bloomberg) — Duke Energy Corp., the largest U.S. utility
owner by market value, bought the 20-megawatt Halifax solar
project in North Carolina from Geenex and ET Solar Energy Corp.

The solar farm in Roanoke Rapids, built on the site of a
decommissioned airport, began generating electricity this month,
Charlotte, North Carolina-based Duke said today in a statement.
Terms weren’t disclosed.

Dominion Resources Inc.’s North Carolina Power unit agreed
to buy electricity from the solar plant under a 15-year
contract. The facility will power about 3,500 homes.

Duke received approval last week to build three other solar
farms in eastern North Carolina as part of a $500 million
expansion plan.
