(Bloomberg) — Gamesa Corp. Tecnologica SA, Spain’s
biggest wind-turbine maker, won a contract to supply its systems
to a wind farm being built for Amazon.com Inc.
The turbine maker will supply 208 megawatts of its systems
for the project in North Carolina’s Perquimans and Pasquotank
counties, it said Thursday in a statement on its website,
declining to disclose the value of the deal.
Amazon on July 13 hired the U.S. unit of Spanish energy
company Iberdrola SA to build and run the wind farm. The project
is expected to open in December 2016 when it will supply power
to Amazon Web Services data centers.
Amazon’s cloud-computing unit in November set a goal to
derive all of its power from renewables, up from about 25
percent currently. By the end of next year, it aims to reach 40
percent. The company in January agreed to buy power for 14 years
from a 150-megawatt wind farm in Indiana.
