Itochu Begins to Sell Home Energy Storage Systems in Japan

Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) — Itochu Corp., a Japanese trading
company, will begin sales of energy storage systems this month.

The product, with a capacity of 7 kilowatt hours, can store
solar power generated from rooftop panels; it can also draw
electricity from the grid at night, when power rates are
cheaper, for use during daytime, Itochu said in a statement.

The device, to be sold for 2.4 million yen ($20,000), can
store about 60 percent of the electricity an average household
needs a day, according to the statement.

The system incorporates lithium-ion batteries made by Sony
Corp., the Nikkei newspaper reported earlier today.
