NJR Clean Energy Buying 48-Megawatt OwnEnergy Kansas Wind Farm

Oct. 21 (Bloomberg) — New Jersey Resources Corp.’s NJR
Clean Energy Ventures is buying its third wind farm from
OwnEnergy Inc., a 48-megawatt project in Kansas.

The power unit is paying about $85 million for the
Alexander Wind Farm in Rush County, about 120 miles northwest of
Wichita, Kansas, according to a statement today.

“As renewable energy becomes an increasingly larger and
important part of our nation’s energy future, we will continue
to look for investment opportunities that strengthen our
distributed-power portfolio,” NJR Chief Executive Officer
Laurence Downes said in the statement.

The Alexander Wind Farm is expected to begin generating
power in the third quarter of next year. The Kansas Board of
Public Utilities is buying about half of the electricity under a
20-year contract, and Yahoo! Inc. is buying the remainder under
a 15-year agreement that seeks to offset the company’s energy
usage in the Great Plains.

The power unit previously bought the Two Dot Wind Farm in
Montana and the Carroll Area Wind Farm in Iowa from OwnEnergy.
