(Bloomberg) — Ormat Technologies Inc., a geothermal energy
developer, won a $98.8 million contract to build a project in
Chile.
The plant, powered by the Earth’s internal heat, will use
two air-cooled Ormat converters and is expected to be finished
by the middle of 2017, the Reno, Nevada-based company said in a
statement Thursday.
Investment in new geothermal capacity last year in Central
and South America rose to $383 million from $46 million in 2013,
according to data compiled by Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
Spending reached $651 million in 2009.
