Whatever Engie is Selling, Corporations are Buying it

  • Engie sold 1.3GW of clean energy to corporations in 2019
  • Next in rankings: 7x Energy, Apex Clean Energy, Longroad

Engie SA spearheads a long list of developers selling clean energy to corporations through PPAs in 2019.

The French utility signed contracts to sell 1.3GW of solar and wind to corporations in 2019, 70% more than the next most active company. Over 1GW of these contracts were signed in the United States, following Engie’s successful acquisition of developer Infinity Renewables in February 2018. It now has a pipeline of over 5.3GW of clean energy projects in the U.S.

Trailing Engie in the ranking are U.S.-based developers 7X Energy (767MW), Apex Clean Energy (652MW) and Longroad Energy (650MW).

Corporations present a credible new stream of revenue for clean energy developers. Though they command contracts that are typically shorter in length than the traditional utility offtaker, many corporations are ramping up their clean energy procurement to meet sustainability goals. Many U.S. utilities, conversely, have already met their mandatory clean energy goals and do not present as strong of an opportunity as customers as they once did.
